We understand that many people are a little concerned with various aspects
of a sitting. Clothing, make-up and spectacles often give some concern and
we would like to offer some advice at this stage, to help you with your
preparations.
Careful planning prior to the sitting, helps us to create a Portrait that
will be of special value to you. |
|
We suggest you avoid colours such as lime or irradiant colours, unless you
are seeking a modern style portrait. Subtle colours are good. Black can
be effective but can prove slightly difficult to photograph. White can also
look good, but please take care to ensure that it not does not appear to
be translucent, unless this is the object of the exercise. Red photographs
well on most occasions. If in any doubt, about what to wear please bring
a selection of clothes and we will help you decide. |
|
Suits or jackets with long sleeved shirts and ties always look smart. If
the portrait is to be informal casual shirts with sweaters or cardigans
are ideal. Unless bearded, please shave within the hour before the sitting.
|
|
Wear something that you KNOW you like yourself in. Long sleeved is preferred,
unless it is a strapless evening dress. Blouses that are semi translucent,
do show the bra through and it is better if this is avoided. If such a blouse
is worn, a camisole or full slip will look better. |
|
Wear an evening style of make up as this will look better in the Portraits.
Avoid very pale lipstick as this tends to photograph almost white. Most
importantly wear a translucent powder over your make-up. This will "set"
it and avoid any shine, which tends to look like perspiration on the Portrait.
Please do not use the "ultraglow" type of make-up as the sparkle effect
generated gives the impression of "white" or "perspiration" on the Portrait.
Your hairstyle should be your own. It is a mistake to have a new style specifically
for your portrait. Try anything new before the day of the sitting.
Dark stockings or tights are more flattering than pale ones. |
|
Colours that co-ordinate well with each other are important in a group portrait,
ensuring that no one person dominates the Portrait because of a clashing
colour. Do discuss your outfits and colour schemes before your Portrait.
Clothing with large motifs on the front can distract from the subject. |
|
Please do not put any pressure on children before the sitting, especially
by warning them to behave themselves, as this prevents us from capturing
their true personality. Having their picture taken should be fun. We have
seen and heard everything from small children and we are expert in encouraging
children to enjoy themselves. |
|
We suggest that teenagers are allowed to bring their own choice of clothes
as well as those that parent's prefer them to wear. Teenagers go through
the same phases as their contemporaries and these attitudes are not new
to us.
Again, "warnings" are not necessary. |
|
Please choose a time when your baby is not hungry or tired.
Heavy knitted outfits tend to look clumsy and we would recommend that a
more delicate outfit is considered. |
|
Some spectacles cause more reflections than others, therefore non-reflecting
lenses are a good answer and it may be worthwhile chatting to your optician.
Removal of lenses or borrowing an identical pair of empty frames from you
optician is a good option. Our expertise will help reduce the flare or reflection.

Please bring anything that you may consider to be a characteristic activity
or aspect of the family with you. This may include the family pet.
Should anyone in your family be particularly worried about having their
Portrait taken, please let us know, either at, or preferably before the
sitting. Sometimes a chat with us before hand is enough to relax the person.
Most people arrive nervous for the sitting, but we like to think that most
leave after the sitting having enjoyed the experience.
We look forward to meeting you. |
